Office of Racing

The Office of Racing is responsible for developing and managing racing governance frameworks, and supporting the growth and economic viability of NSW racing. This includes managing the relationships between Government and the three industry controlling bodies, Racing NSW (thoroughbreds), Harness Racing NSW (standardbreds/ harness) and Greyhound Racing NSW (greyhounds).

Greyhound indu​​​​stry reform panel

The Government has appointed a Greyhound Industry Reform Panel, chaired by former Premier Morris Iemma.  The Panel will determine the new regime that will ensure greyhound racing in NSW prioritises animal welfare, has a robust governance structure and a tough independent regulator to monitor the industry.  ​

Special Commission of Inquiry into Greyhound Racing

A Special Commission of Inquiry into the Greyhound Racing Industry in NSW was established in 2015 to identify issues relating to the governance, integrity and animal welfare standards of the industry.

Wagering information

Liquor & Gaming NSW is responsible for advising the NSW Government on wagering policy, associated legislation, and strategies for reducing the harms associated with problem gambling.

Racing NSW - Appointment of board member

Expressions of interest are invited from persons wishing to be considered for appointment as a member of Racing NSW.

Scoping Study of the NSW Racing Industry

In mid 2014, the NSW Government commissioned a study, conducted by IER Pty Ltd, into the size and scope of the racing industry in New South Wales.
