Office of Racing

The Office of Racing is responsible for developing and managing racing governance frameworks, and supporting the growth and economic viability of NSW racing. This includes managing the relationships between Government and the three industry controlling bodies, Racing NSW (thoroughbreds), Harness Racing NSW (standardbreds/ harness) and Greyhound Racing NSW (greyhounds).

Scoping Study of the NSW Racing Industry

In mid 2014, the NSW Government commissioned a study, conducted by IER Pty Ltd, into the size and scope of the racing industry in New South Wales.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Racing the Hon Troy Grant MP has announced the appointment of four directors, including two new female members, to the Racing NSW Board.

Wagering information

Liquor & Gaming NSW is responsible for advising the NSW Government on wagering policy, associated legislation, and strategies for reducing the harms associated with problem gambling.

​Special Commission of Inquiry into Greyhound Racing

A Special Commission of Inquiry into the Greyhound Racing Industry in NSW has been established to identify issues relating to the governance, integrity and animal welfare standards of the industry.

The Commission will determine whether these issues can be appropriately addressed and if so, will develop an improved model and review the existing legislative framework for the industry. The Commission will provide a final report to the NSW Government.
