Office of Racing

The Office of Racing is responsible for developing and managing racing governance frameworks, and supporting the growth and economic viability of NSW racing. This includes managing the relationships between Government and the three industry controlling bodies, Racing NSW (thoroughbreds), Harness Racing NSW (standardbreds/ harness) and Greyhound Racing NSW (greyhounds).

Transit​​​ion of the NSW greyhound racing indu​​​​stry to closure

​On 7 July 2016 the NSW Government announced that it has decided to shut down the greyhound racing in NSW following the report of the Special Commission of Inquiry into the Greyhound Racing Industry.​ 

The industry will be transitioned to closure over 12 months.​​​

Special Commission of Inquiry into Greyhound Racing

A Special Commission of Inquiry into the Greyhound Racing Industry in NSW was established in 2015 to identify issues relating to the governance, integrity and animal welfare standards of the industry.

Wagering information

Liquor & Gaming NSW is responsible for advising the NSW Government on wagering policy, associated legislation, and strategies for reducing the harms associated with problem gambling.

Scoping Study of the NSW Racing Industry

In mid 2014, the NSW Government commissioned a study, conducted by IER Pty Ltd, into the size and scope of the racing industry in New South Wales.
